De transformatie van de Nieuwestad in Leeuwarden is in volle gang. Waar de binnenstad nu vooral een doorgangsfunctie heeft, ontstaat de komende jaren een groene, gastvrije verblijfsplek. Afgelopen maanden werkte BoschSlabbers samen met de gemeente, bewoners en ondernemers aan een schetsontwerp dat water, historie en stadsleven verenigt.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Na een intensief participatietraject is het voorlopig ontwerp inmiddels goedgekeurd door het college van B&W. De kern? Meer ruimte voor voetgangers en fietsers, een verlaagde flaneerkade langs de gracht en meer dan 50 extra bomen die zorgen voor schaduw, verkoeling en biodiversiteit Aan de westzijde van De Waag komt een nieuw terras met een speelaanleiding voor kinderen, en <\/span>onder het voormalige V&D-gebouw (nu Costes) komt een ruime, inpandige fietsenstalling \u2013 waardoor op straatniveau plek vrijkomt voor groen, zitplekken en een ruimer profiel voor voetgangers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Daarnaast krijgt de openbare ruimte een compleet nieuwe uitstraling. De gladde granietstenen maken plaats voor warmere, karaktervolle klinkers die beter aansluiten bij het historische stadsbeeld. Nieuwe zitplekken aan het water maken de gracht tot een fijne verblijfsplek, terwijl vergroening op maaiveld-, gevel- en waterniveau het straatbeeld verzachten. Door een slimme ordening van functies \u2013 zoals afvalcontainers en laad- en loszones \u2013 wordt het straatbeeld rustiger en overzichtelijker.<\/span><\/p>\n

In het voorjaar van 2026 start de uitvoering en krijgt de Nieuwestad haar nieuwe gezicht: een levendige, toegankelijke binnenstad waar je kunt thuiskomen aan het water, in een historisch kader met een groen hart.<\/span><\/p>\n
