Een historisch Zeeuws vestingstadje \u2013 geliefd om haar haven, straatjes en compacte binnenstad. Verstild in de winter, intens en druk bezocht in de zomer.<\/p>\n<p>Die seizoensdruk liet sporen na: de openbare ruimte was op veel plekken versleten, en vormde de aanleiding voor het masterplan <i>Placemaking Veere<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Onderdeel van dat masterplan is de Veerse Kaai: de maritieme rand van de stad. Een langgerekte openbare ruimte langs de haven, waar verblijf, bereikbaarheid en dagelijks gebruik samenkomen. samen onderzochten hoe de Veerse binnenstad leefbaar kon blijven.<\/p>\n<p>Voor de herinrichting van de Kaai vormde de bestaande structuur de basis. Rijbaan, parkeren en loopstrook werden opnieuw geordend tot een helder profiel, met hergebruik van klinkers en keien als uitgangspunt. Door straatverbanden te differenti\u00ebren en overgangen zorgvuldig te detailleren, wordt het gebruik gestuurd zonder nadrukkelijke ingrepen.<\/p>\n<p>Ook terrassen, fietsparkeren en straatmeubilair zijn vormgegeven tot een samenhangend, genuanceerd geheel. De subtiel verlaagde parkeervakken langs de Kaai maken daarin het verschil. Door de parkeerzone enkele centimeters lager te leggen en op te sluiten met slanke stalen strips, worden auto\u2019s vanzelf ondergeschikt aan de ruimte langs het water. Zonder markeringen of borden wordt zo een vanzelfsprekende hi\u00ebrarchie voelbaar.<\/p>\n<p>De loopstrook langs de haven is uitgevoerd in vlakke, volledig opgevoegde kasseien \u2013 wat het wandelen langs het water comfortabel en continu maakt.<br \/>\nHet zijn kleine ingrepen die functie en gebruik sturen zonder de aandacht op te
